Voting听results from听Congress and听the听higher听education听sector听conference听2021听are now available and听can be found here.

Congress听delegates听made some听key decisions about the major issues facing us as a sector听and we now need to start an urgent consultation process with branches about the member level campaigns听delegates mandated the union to undertake.听听

To do this, we need maximum participation from members听鈥� the听key听decisions听made by听Congress听now听must听be conveyed to all members听so that听campaigns听that include them can commence. 听

Next听steps: pay and听USS campaigns听听

The best way to ensure broad听understanding of听and听support听for听our听campaigns over听pay and听USS听is for you to start building the member level campaigns听in your branch now.听

To do this we need you听to urgently听call听a听branch听EGM听before听2听July. In this meeting听your branch committee, and ideally the delegates your branch sent to congress,听should听be available to听start the process of education by reporting back to听members听the outcomes of听Congress听and听sector听conference,听and听answering听questions from members听about the debates and voting.听

The more members you can get to come to your meeting the better, as this will show how many members听are engaged听and ensure as many views as possible are heard. The number听of members we engage is important, because they will听be听essential听to听building the听member level campaign that听will be crucial in听winning听the battles ahead.听

In the meeting we ask that you discuss the following: 听

For USS听and听non-USS branches:听

  • as a branch are your members ballot ready?听
  • as a branch are your members ready to take action?听听
  • what type of actions are members ready to take?听
  • what does a win look like for听members?听听
  • what questions do members have about either the USS pensions dispute or the 4 Fights dispute to听get campaign ready?听听
  • what issues do members听have and how can we help address them in the campaign?听听
  • in what ways do听members听think we should听combine issues of pay, casualisation, workload, inequality pay gaps and the USS pension dispute?听听
  • what are听members’听views on the best timing for a听pay, casualisation, workload, inequality pay gaps听campaign, and a USS pension campaign?听听
  • are there any other issues in your branch which members consider important?听听

Please provide feedback on your branch members’ views on each of the points above听by 30 June (in time for the meeting of the national higher education committee on 2 July),听using this e-mail address.听 听

Your participation in this process is very important听as all responses will be collated and presented to the听next meeting of our higher education committee听on 2 July,听which will听help听decide how we proceed with听all听motions听passed听and听remitted.听In order to feed into the development of the next steps of our higher education campaigns over pay and pensions, you must听send the response of your branch here听by听30 June.听听
