Honorary Treasurer’s introduction

2014/15 will continue to be another difficult year for all our members as they experience a turbulent period of industrial relations in both sectors.  The union is not immune from the same factors and whilst we have looked to honour Congress policy we must also continue to be realistic about income and expenditure and the strength of the financial position of 51¸£Àû.

The budget for 2014/15 has therefore been constructed realistically containing expenditure proposals where possible.  The budget aims to absorb as much of the reduction in membership numbers as possible together with accounting for inflationary increases.  However, in order to partially offset the pressures of both of the above, together with the greater utilisation of 51¸£Àû resources necessary to support the membership at this time, it is necessary to maintain the real value of subscription charges by an overall uplift in subscription rates of 3.5%.  This accords with the long-term policy set by SFC to maintain the financial resources of 51¸£Àû in order to face the challenges ahead with sufficient backing.

Yours sincerely

Angela Roger

Honorary Treasurer
