Steve Boyce (PeoplePlus prison education)

Nominated by Eastern and Home Counties Regional Committee

•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Supporting and representing members

Steve has tirelessly supported countless members across his Prison Branch in casework dedicated to giving members the best possible representation he possibly can, often giving up his own time to do so. He has also always supported other members to achieve potential as activists which we have directly witnessed at Region where he has supported and encouraged new members including supporting one younger member to become active in national Equality Committee.

•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Organising, recruitment, and branch development

As we all know working within Prison Branches is extremely difficult but despite this Steve has persevered in the Organising, recruitment, and branch development of his Peoples Prison branch under these sometimes impossible circumstance. For example when the employer refused facility time to Steve due to non-recognition of the Branch Steve used his own annual leave to attend important meetings until the situation was resolved.

Steve’s perseverance and hard work in association with national office resulted in 51¸£Àû now having a common interest agreement of TU recognition with Peoples Plus Prison Branch which has been a major step forward.

•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Advancing the equality agenda

Steve has been an NEC member for some years serving on the Equality Committee and been involved in many initiatives in advancing the Equality Agenda for LBTQ+ members bringing forward motions to Congress to form 51¸£Àû policy on Equality. As well as all the work he does with 51¸£Àû Steve is also Chair of Schools Out UK dedicated to supporting and educating schools in LGTQ+ issues.

•ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Campaigning

As well as all the Campaigning on Equality & his Prison Branch Steve has carried out within 51¸£Àû he has also been a dedicated campaigner across the wide range of issues that affect every 51¸£Àû member.

In summary Steve is a dedicated trade unionist and activist who tirelessly works for the benefit of others. In addition he does this, not only with great skill, competency and dedication but also with a great warmth of friendship and humour that we will sorely miss at Regional Committee.
