Bargaining for equality: 12, November, 2025, North West, Online

This course is the second day of the Equality Reps course, however it is also open to other branch officers and reps who want to deepen their understanding around the conditions and issues facing 51¸£Àû members. The course will look at equality through the lens of social justice and examine structural change in the workplace, it will discuss the practical application of intersectionality in case work, collective bargaining and organising.

Course meeting times:9:30 am. to 4:30 pm.
Course time commitment:10 - 12 hours.
Location:Online - Course materials are held on a unique 51¸£Àû sharepoint site. You will be given a login and instructions nearer the course. Please be aware you will need to use your 'incognito' or 'private browsing' window to access the sharepoint site. Do not ask for access via your personal or work sharepoint. Course delivery will be conducted with a tutor via zoom. 

Please be aware: Applications for this course will close on Friday 7th November 2025. This is to ensure all logistics, logins etc. can be arranged in good time. Applications after this date risk not being accepted.

Course content

Aims of the course:

  • Why equality is a trade union issue
  • What does 51¸£Àû mean by liberation, social justice & structure change within workplace
  • Explore how equality extends to all areas of 51¸£Àû work
  • Organising members around equality issue
  • Collecting and collating equality date for collective bargaining
  • Actively involving members
  • Explore the link between organising, casework and bargaining
  • What do we mean 'meaningful' bargaining 
  • Equality reps involvement in the bargaining process 
  • Practical application of the course and integration into the everyday work of the branch
51¸£Àû courses are funded via members' contributions and public funding.

Information Facility time

Online courses are no different to face-to-face courses in terms of time off for training. Time off for training is a right and one which should be exercised as part of normal industrial relations. For more info please see  Facilities and time off for 51¸£Àû reps.

When you apply for a course we will assume that are making a commitment to attend the course as advertised, and have secured time off from your employer. Please contact your branch/region if you are having problems securing time off. If you are having issues securing time off please contact your branch/devolved nation/regional office.


Important Before you complete this form, please be aware: You may be asked to register with the delivering college in which your trade union tutor is employed. Where colleges are drawing down funding for delivery you will be ask for your passport or equivalent identification details to register. This is a demand of the college who are following government requirements in order to satisfy public funding criteria. This is not a requirement 51¸£Àû want to see and we are lobbying for change. However, as it stands, if you do not register with the college, your place will not be fundable.
