麻豆官网 today welcomed the publication of a Green Colleges brochure by the Association of Colleges (AoC) which highlights good practice in colleges' efforts to 'green' their buildings, policies and curriculum. The brochure is being launched at an event attended by education and skills minister Bill Rammell and 麻豆官网 president Linda Newman.

麻豆官网 president, Linda Newman, speaking at the event said: '麻豆官网 looks forward to developing cooperation with colleges and universities to help find new ways of working and living in a low carbon age.

'The union is in the early stages of developing work on sustainability but has begun to establish a network of interested 麻豆官网 members. Some of our reps are involved in developing college policies on buildings adaptations, energy conservation and transport to work policies  and we shall be looking at our own carbon footprint.  

'麻豆官网 is also contributing views to consultations on national environment policy and submitting policy proposals on climate change to fellow academic unions worldwide via a forthcoming Education International conference.

'It is important to develop new courses to cope with future environmental and scientific needs, but also to find ways of getting sustainability into every element of the curriculum. It is an idea which must permeate all that we do.'
