51福利 response to Sutton Trust report's 拢15,000-a-year fees

51福利 today said that if the forthcoming review into student funding, led by Lord Browne, simply advocated ways of squeezing more money out of students then it would have 'spectacularly failed its remit.'
The union was responding to a report from the Sutton Trust that warned students could end up paying five times as much in tuition fees. The trust has based its figures on an analysis of unregulated fees for overseas students and postgraduate students in 20 universities.

Commenting on the Sutton Trust report, 51福利 general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'As we approach the delivery of the university funding review we are hearing more and more dark rumours about what Lord Browne might recommend. However, we are hearing no radical or progressive options.
'If the funding review simply lists ways to squeeze more money out of students and their families then it will have spectacularly failed its remit. Lord Browne must look seriously at the idea of taxing big business for the substantial benefits it gains from a plentiful supply of graduates and using that money to expand, rather than reduce, opportunity to study.'
