51福利 comments on graduate unemployment figures
26 January 2011
51福利 today responded to figures on graduate unemployment published today, which show that it has reached a 10-year high with one in five recent graduates unable to find work.
51福利 general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'Today's graduate unemployment figures are further bad news for students and young people. The coalition has slashed university budgets, tripled tuition fees, axed vital support for college students and the Future Jobs Fund.
'Those who do make it through university are going to face a difficult job market without support, but saddled with record levels of debt. 51福利, along with the TUC and NUS, is organising a demonstration in Manchester on Saturday that calls for immediate investment in education and jobs. Failure to do so risks consigning a whole generation to the scrapheap of inactivity.'
