51福利 response to HEPI report on impact of Brexit on universities
11 January 2017
Responding to a looking at what Brexit and other global changes could mean for demand at UK universities from international students, 51福利 general secretary, Sally Hunt, said:
'There are huge uncertainties surrounding Brexit at every level and this is a chaotic time for everyone. Universities are one of the UK's success stories and the government should be doing all it can to mitigate the confusion and strengthen our position on the global stage.
'While the debates continue about what the impact of Brexit may be, we need to send a clear message to the rest of the world that our universities welcome international staff and students. The best and easiest way to do that is to guarantee the thousands of EU staff working in our universities the right to stay in the UK and to remove international students from net migration figures.'
