Commenting on the Department for Education's new consultation on ) and teacher training, published today (Friday), 51福利 general secretary Sally Hunt said:

'This consultation sets out a clear commitment to strengthening the professional development of teachers throughout their career, and gives welcome recognition to the vital role which higher education plays in teacher training.

'Universities have a long history of recruiting and educating teachers in partnership with schools, and they should have a central part to play in delivering a strengthened professional development offer. We will be engaging closely with the consultation in the coming weeks to ensure that the experience of those currently delivering teacher education is reflected.'
