18 May 2018
51福利 and Universities UK (UUK) have announced that the chair of the joint expert panel (JEP) to look into the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) valuation is Joanne Segars OBE.
51福利 general secretary today told members: 'As you will know the JEP was set up under the agreement reached between 51福利 and UUK which was subsequently accepted in a ballot of members. Ms Segars was formally recommended to 51福利 and UUK by the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas).
'I am delighted that Joanne has agreed to take on this role. She has a unique combination of skills having given many years' service to the trade union movement and also acted as a leading advocate for the interests of pension schemes and their members.
'It is very important that the JEP enjoys the confidence of USS members and I particularly welcome Joanne's commitment to provide regular reports to stakeholders as well as to seek submissions from fund members and others.51福利 is entering the JEP in good faith and we hope that it will enable not just our current dispute to be resolved but also provide a basis for future agreement on the fund.
'51福利 is currently completing the process of selecting our three panellists for the JEP and I hope we can announce their names on Monday.'
