4 June 2011
Dr Miguel Angel Beltr獺n, the most prominent 'prisoner of conscience' whose case 51腦瞳 has taken up in recent years, has been absolved of all charges.
51腦瞳 general secretary Sally Hunt said 'we are delighted that Dr Beltr獺n has been absolved of all charges. This vindicates the efforts 51腦瞳 members have put in alongside Justice for Colombia, Amnesty International and teacher trade unionists round the world. We hope that it will be a significant step forward in the ongoing battle for human rights in Colombia.'
It is thought the verdict relates to the Colombian Supreme Court decision that evidence from the notorious FARC computers is illegal. Justice for Colombia expect Dr Beltr獺n to be released in the coming days.
